Every year Quickway participate in the Sydney City2Surf to raise funds for a cause that has in some way affected one of our employees and this year is no different. Over the weekend, Team Quickway ran 14km as part of this year’s Sydney City2Surf Virtual Run with Michael Keena bringing in the fastest time. This year Quickway ran to raise funds for Melanoma Patients Australia which provides information, guidance, support and assistance for family, friends, and carers of those affected by melanoma, a cause which has affected one of our own.
Shane’s Story: “During a haircut 2 months ago, a small raised spot on the side of my hair was clipped. Luckily, I booked myself in to see the GP that afternoon and was further referred to a skin specialist the following week where a biopsy was done. Despite the initial assumption that it was just a spot or an ingrown hair, the biopsy came back positive for melanoma. A PET scan, brain MRI, and further appointments in Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick were done followed by surgery to remove three affected areas near each other. After an anxious 4-day wait, the results of the surgery came back negative, confirming the melanoma had not spread. The care and attention I received from Day 1 was exceptional; everything was done fast with a high level of professionalism and I was extremely lucky to be in a country which has dedicated so much funding and research into skin cancer, the development of treatments and cures, and support for individuals, families and friends affected by skin cancer.”
