Mental Health Month
In the Australian Construction Industry, approximately one life is lost to suicide every second day. Further, construction workers are six times more likely to die from suicide than an accident at work (Mates in Construction, 2020). Mental Health Month aims to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing, a topic which is especially important to our industry.
Last week, as part of mental health month, many of our staff in leadership roles took part in a Mental Health Awareness and Response for Management Course run by Associated Counsellors & Psychologists Sydney. This vital training will help our supervisory staff to identify the early warning signs of mental illness and how to seek appropriate treatment for themselves and for their teams.
The training included the importance of mental health, benefits of early intervention, how to help someone in need, how to access professional help and suicide awareness. Further, our staff also completed the ‘Beating Anxiety in the face of COVID-19’ program.
2020 has been a tough year for many people, and we would like to remind our staff of our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which is a free anonymous service for all Quickway employees that offers anonymous and confidential counselling, coaching and support for workplace and personal issues, which can be accessed by going to https://www.convergeinternational.com.au/
